For more than 30 years, modelling the critical loads of atmospheric pollutants is the basis of international negociations on reducing air pollution. This scientific concept, initiated in Scandinavia, was quickly adopted around the 1990s by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe in the frame of the Geneva Convention on long-range transboundary air pollution.
This site provides a general overview of atmospheric pollutants that are concerned with the Convention, all the explanations of associated critical loads and their mapping on French territory, produced by the French National Focal Point (NFP) based at EcoLab research laboratory.
